About this blog…
Hi. My name is Derek Plews and this is my blog.
After more than 40 years as a journalist, civil servant and army officer, I am now retired and enjoying the freedom to write about things that interest me – without the muzzle that comes with a career spent mostly in the public sector.
So, no more biting my tongue in case I overstep the bounds of public sector probity. I am telling it as I see it, shooting from the hip, and hopefully hitting the target now and again.
The content of the blog will range from military history (a particular passion), current defence issues, my books, and contemporary politics, although not necessarily in that order of priority.
The views expressed are mine and mine alone. I have some fairly forthright political opinions, which will undoubtedly peek through from time to time. But I have no party affiliations. I neither seek nor receive payment.
If you find yourself agreeing with any of the content, that’s great. If you don’t, that’s great too. In any case, thanks for joining me on this journey.
